It can be very quick to cause damage to your hot tub or jacuzzi if you do not pay attention regularly to your water balance chemistry. A low pH will cause pitting and corrosion on the heating element and sensors, while a high chlorine or bromine level will deteriorate and bleach any plastic items in the hot tub, including the control pad and cover. If you open your hot tub cover and see that the underside is rough and white, That's an immediate sign that the chlorine level is way too high and from "gas off" has cooked the cover and probably the pillows and diverter handles.
